Nilgiri, The Tea of the Blue Mountains.
The home of Nilgiri tea is the Nilgiri Mountains, part of the Western Gnats in Southern India. This beautiful part of the world is also known as the Blue Mountains of Nilgiri, thanks to the purplish-blue Kurinji flower that blossoms on their slopes just once every 12 years.
Nestled high in the mountains are the Nilgiri hills tea plantations where the magic is produced. Since the mid-19th century, Nilgiri tea has been grown at elevations of between 1,000 and 2,500 meters. The whole region enjoys a subtropical climate and receives approximately 80 inches of rainfall every year.
These conditions are perfect for tea production and the result is a dark, intensely aromatic tea with a smooth, mellow taste. An underlying sweetness brings hints of dusk flowers and tropical fruits.
How can you Brew the Perfect cup?
There are many ways that you can brew the perfect cup of Nilgiri tea. The first is by using a glass teapot with a built-in infuser. Put a teaspoon of leaves into the pot for each cup of tea that you intend to brew, boil the water, and let it steep for about 3 minutes. Pour your tea into your favourite cup and enjoy!
If you don’t have a teapot with a built-in infuser, you can also use a magic tea wand. These wands go directly in your cup and act as filters to release your tea’s flavour. You can also put them in a traditional ceramic teapot or a kettle with water that has already been boiled.
What are its Health Benefits?
- Although the taste is a good enough reason to enjoy a cup of Nilgiri tea, the brew is full of health benefits. It’s rich in flavonoids which can help strengthen the circulatory system & improve blood circulation. Thanks to the amino acid L-theanine, tea relaxes the mind, helping you to remain alert & focused on the task at hand.
- Black teas are famous for being rich in antioxidants & Nilgiri Tea is no different. Antioxidants have the ability to protect cells from degenerating, which, when combined with the anti-inflammatory powers of Nilgiri tea, it can help to boost your body’s natural defenses against the effects of pollution & aging.
